I figured what is more fun
than showing your motors!?

This page is going to be a collection of motors that were restored with a little help from me...in that I sold the motor or parts.

Shamelessly looking for new customers, I am looking for glowing testimonials, too!

Honest, and glowing, testimonials.

1938 Elto Ace restoration

"The spares and Transfer made it back here OK in mysuitcase. At long last I have finished the rebuild of the Ace, painted it and used the Transfer you gave me.

Before fitting it I sprayed the paint side of the transfer with three coats of clear acrylic auto paint, and this kept it intact (ish!) when I soaked it and placed it round the tank.

The oil and operating transfers I was able to photograph on a couple of Aces in the British Motorboat Museum near London, and from these I was able to 'fake' replicas on my laptop and print them on clear transfer craft paper. Worked better than I expected, see last picture.

After painting complete motor with several coats of clear acrylic and letting it harden, I put some fuel in, flooded the carb, set mix a bit rich, the speed a bit fast, pulled her over and she was running first pull!

Ran for a few minutes till she started to get a bit hot, then shut her down and let her cool. I WAS DELIGHTED ! MANY MANY THANKS FOR YOUR HELP !

Since then I have started her several times with the prop off in a bucket of water and she is the easy starting, smooth running motor I remember from my youth."

Note from webmaster Emma: I couldn't bear to crop that awesome garden!

"I got this Johnson AB from Doug Penn , it sure wasn't very pretty when I got it but it sure turned out to be a beauty. This is one of my top favorite motors of my collection , its a great motor thanks to Doug."

Bob Shuda

Looks different from when he got it!

Thought I would send a couple of photos. These motors are put together with the parts you have sent me.

I can't thank you enough for all of the help you have given me. Thanks a million!

I found this 1918 Evinrude Row Boat Motor in a junk pile at an old outboard motor repair shop ready to go to the scrapyard. It was missing the propeller, exhaust manifold, muffler as well as various
other parts and the piston was siezed in the cylinder. I posted on the AMOCI website asking the members for some help rounding up the parts to restore the motor which appeared to be a lost cause.

Doug responded to my request. I was amazed that he had all of the parts I needed to get the motor restored. His pricing was very fair and shipping was great. Doug provided the propeller, shear pin, prop nut and ring, exhaust manifold, muffler and a piston ring that broke when I tried to remove it from the piston. It is nice to have someone who still can provide the parts and advice for a 1918 Evinrude Row Boat Motor. Now the motor is the centerpiece of my outboard motor collection.

I restored the az-45 pumper outboard that I got from Doug. ....I figured out it's 1931 est.
This is a rare model for pumpers.
thanks.

Jon Koranda

Jon also wrote in with a picture of a Scout that his dad, Pat Koranda, restored with parts from here.

"Heres the scout. Its so hard to get any picts, because it so shiney. He did a real nice job on it."

Doug told me the Rocket should be a solid runner with the usual maintenance being performed. With a carb rebuild, new water pump, cleaning of the points and some new gear lube this Rocket runs like a new motor and it is one of my favorite motors to run.

It runs so well I decided to give it a cosmetic restoration. Having purchased several
motors from Doug I can tell you Doug is extremely honest and fair!
Thanks Doug!

Enclosed is a picture of the Mercury KE4 Rocket I purchased from Doug.

As promised, attached is a "before and after" picture of the QD-17 I purchased from you.

"I have conducted business with Doug Penn on numerous occasions for my vintage outboard needs. He is a consummate professional and is committed to helping you find those tough to find parts and motors.

Even more important than his fast service and affordable prices, Doug is honest and stands by his products. I look forward to many more transactions in the future, as Doug has more than earned my loyalty!"

--Jason Patti

"Doug always gives an honest description on the condition of the motor offered for sale, and the pictures help tell the story.

He does offer to make good on any shortcomings. And, he packages the motor very well so it arrives undamaged."

Enclosing pictures of an A-50 and a Model B Light Twin purchased from Doug that I recently restored.

Over the last couple of years I have enjoyed the services of Mr. Doug Penn. Under the direct supervision of Molly (the Cat) who in fact is the back bone of the business in her capacity as quality control and shipping manager. I, have purchased four complete motors and parts for several others. All were fairly priced and very carefully shipped in a short period of time.

Mr. Penn operates his business as a close friend with many considerations for preferred customers. You may ask just how one becomes a preferred customer. In your payment for parts include a gratuity for Molly (the Cat) as she has a taste for exotic dinners in the French style that Mr. Penn with his bargain prices can rarely afford. I currently have seventy motors in my collection and rely with complete faith on Mr. Penn's services.
